SHIFT's February Learning Community Showcase will highlight the work of two SHIFT-supported initiatives that create opportunities for their community members to come together to make art. They will discuss the power of art-making to break isolation, forge connection, and open possibilities for challenging the systemic barriers to their communities' well-being.
Ka Collective, an initiative of Kapwa Centre, is a group of Filipino/a/x artists living and working in Tiohtià:ke/Montreal. They find support and solidarity through the Filipino value of Kapwa, honoring each person’s artistic practice while harmonizing with each other through shared processes and principles. Through monthly artist gatherings and community art-making workshops, they open spaces of connection to self, community and culture.
